Yes what I am saying is because there is no significant air leakage that any air that pushes pressure into the car through the fan vents will push that pressure to the trunk so that when you pop it you feel the rush of cold air come out. I think you are only feeling the effect because of the conditions, also your car wasn't fully warmed up for that whole time, since the ac and rad use the same air exchange ac will be more effective when the car is first turned on. If you put groceries in the trunk that came from the hot outside to actually have a cooling effect the AC compressor would need to either super cool the air so it's still cold enough after it passes by all the passengers or put a vent straight into the trunk.
